Prompt: Now that we have finished reading Fences and you are completing your final project, reflect on your overall understanding of the play. Which character, conflict, or theme has stood out to you the most, and why? Explain how your project represents what you learned about the play.

Rose stood out to me the most in every way. Her past and present was so devastating but yet relatable in real life because that could truly be someone else's life.  she went through a past of sin but found something to believe in and look forward too. Even after building a life with someone she trusted and loved even he betrayed her and caused her to lose respect but she had ever right to do so. Cause she couldn't leave she blocked him out basically till he died.

Prompt: At the end of Fences, forgiveness becomes an important part of the characters moving forward. Do you think forgiving someone means you also have to forget what they did? Why or why not? Connect your response to your own experiences or observations.

I feel as though when forgiving someone for their wrongful doing you dont have to forget the wrong they did. Some people take it as a lesson or "moving forward i will never do this". From my own experience i have experienced years of abuse mentally, physically, and verbally while as though i dont forgive what happened i feel as though if i ever came to terms to do so i couldnt ever forget because of the trauma i endured.

Before watching the movie clips, you probably formed your own picture of the characters, their personalities, and how certain scenes would look. Choose one character or scene that appeared differently in the movie than you imagined while reading. What was different, and did the movie change how you understood that character or scene?

I had a different image of corey in my head. I thought corey would be stronger or even so taller. When i saw the film of him it was a little disappointing. Also rose was bigger i lot she would have more of a petite imagining. The vocabulary like powder up and corey wanting to do sports creating that imaging.

Troy’s revelation changes his relationship with Rose. Do you think one major lie or betrayal can permanently change how you see someone, even if you have known and trusted that person for years? Explain your reasoning and how trust can or cannot be rebuilt.

One major lie can change someone perspective. When a person lies its a deception of a view that they had of that person. It changes weather that person can trust you again or not. Its that the person has lost respect or lost the view they saw of that person beforehand and doesn't know how to move forward.

In Scene 4, Troy explains his beliefs about his responsibilities as a father. Beyond providing food, clothing, and shelter, what do you believe a parent owes their child emotionally? Should love, encouragement, friendship, and support be expected, or are those things separate from a parent’s responsibilities? Explain your perspective.

I believe a parent owes their child open ears. A parents doesnt have to agree with what the child says but a parent with open ears keeps a strong relationship cause the kid knows they can talk to the parent. Some parents goes by different rules not everyone has the same beliefs. A parent is fine as long as its not emotional abuse, because that's when it can mess with a kids head and cause a child to linger into the wrong groups.

In Scene 4, Troy talks about his past, his responsibilities, and the choices he has made in life. Have you ever had to choose between something you wanted to do and something you needed to do? What influenced your decision, and were you satisfied with your choice?

I have had to choose between going to the er or finishing a birthday party i was at. We went to some activity places with different games and i fell and my ankle popped but i was having to much fun and  after i fractured my ankle. i choose to finish the birthday party  because thug it out why not. which caused me to have to wait 4 days more to go to the er and get put into a boot for much longer.

Prompt: In Fences, Troy makes it clear that he believes his main responsibility as a father is to provide for Cory, not necessarily to like him or make him happy. Do you think parents have to like their children, or is it enough for them to love, provide for, and take care of them? Explain the difference between loving someone and liking someone. Do you agree or disagree with Troy's view of parenting? Explain your response and make a personal or real-world connection.

I think that parents don't have to like their kid they just have to care for them till they are 18. Loving and liking are very different things, love is unconditional. Liking is temporary you can  have a disagreement and still love someone but if you like someone and they are nothing more its easy to say goodbye.

In Fences, Lyons asks his father, Troy, to lend him money. Do you think adult children should ask their parents to borrow money, or should they be expected to handle their financial problems on their own? Explain your opinion and connect it to your own experiences, observations, or beliefs about family and money.

I think the only reason an adult should ask their parents for money is if its for a one time family emergency. besides that i think its immature and showing you need to get your life together. adults should be expected to handle situations because they pay their own things. Now if its a one time thing its understandable as a loan.

Prompt: In Fences, the fence is a physical object, but it can also represent the emotional or personal barriers people create. Think about a “fence” you have built in your own life. What were you trying to keep out or protect yourself from? Did that fence help you or hold you back? Explain.

A fence i have is with my brother. I would say him and my dad have the same actions and intention to hurt my feelings. the difference is my dad was abusive and my brother learned from that to fight me when we get into disagreements. Now i try my best to never see him i don't want to go near him or be around him because its constant fighting.  (dont worry nothing to report everything worked out i am safe!)

Prompt: After watching your classmates present their identity masks, think about how people are often more complex than what we see on the outside. What did the presentations teach you about looking beyond the surface when getting to know someone?

What people look like doesn't define them. People should be given a chance based off of acts and behavior not looks. i was not there for the presentation but from what we talked about the masks are used to fit in with other people and when you find yourself your mask breaks off showing your true identity.

In “Missing Your People,” Tracy Brower explains the importance of belonging. Describe a time when you felt like you truly belonged. What created that feeling?

I feel like a time i felt like i truly belonged was last year in theater. I played a really big role and constantly got praised for it. But also i felt like i had comfort with my friends. My time playing that role was emotional with all the seniors leaving. But lastly i got nominated to have the possibility of going to shulers and competing and my director was so proud of me.

Reflect on a time when you discovered a new perspective that completely changed how you viewed a person, group, or place. How did your previous “single story” shape your thoughts or actions?

I had a boyfriend freshman year,  but now hes not the same person i knew. I thought we thrived together and grew for the better of each other. Eventually over time i think his friends and dad had opinions on me changed his perspective on people and so he would make little comments that would hurt my feelings and slowly it started turning into control. Not only to me but other people. Hes not a very supportive open person and it showed deep but i never thought anything over because people had their own opinions and you cant change that. I felt as though maybe he could change or i could shape him into a better person but unfortunately it only got worse i thought that the way he treated me was what i deserved or only thing i could get until i met someone better who showed me different and what care should look like. I'm so thankful for that and now i know don't stoop for the bottom or let people control or change you for the worse.

With 4.5-week grades posting on September 2, reflect on your experience in AP Language so far. What has been going well for you, what has been challenging, and what is one thing you need to improve moving forward?

I feel as though i do a good job staying on task getting the work done in class in groups. But on the other hand the blogs are hard to keep up with. In class work is nice and on a good level not impossible but not too challenging and i appreciate that. When working alone i feel as though my thoughts are harder to form cause i dont have other peoples opinions and cant take that in with what i think.
